Bucktail Guide Service offers many types of guided fly fishing trips. They all will be tailored to match your abilities and meet your needs.If you like to fly fish a remote stream, we will hike there. If you like to fly fish a remote pond, we will boat there. If you like to access some stream from a road, we can do that too. All full-day fly fishing trips include rods (if you need them), flies and a noon meal. You will need to provide transportation and all the other normal fly fishing equipment. If this is your first time, upon scheduling your trip, I will provide you a list of mandatory fly fishing equipment.

Speaking of fly fishing for the first time, we offer a “Learn to Fly Fish” package. This is a great plan for ladies, mom’s and daughters and fathers and sons. This introductory course covers all the topics necessary to get you fly fishing. We will cover the fly rod and rigging, basic equipment, knots, flies, reading a stream, casting and more. Class room time is about 3 hours. The best thing about this course is, you will go FISHING! Our fly fishing course will provide you with fly fishing knowledge and skills that will add to the enjoyment of your fly fishing adventures for years to come.

Guided fly fishing trips or the “Learn to Fly Fish” package will be scheduled upon receipt of a 50% deposit. Cash and checks are accepted. Balance of payment is due 7 days before trip. Guided fly fishing trips and “Learn to Fly Fish” classes may be canceled 14 days in advance. All moneys paid will be returned at the time of cancellation. Guided fly fishing trips and “Learn to Fly Fish” classes canceled 13 to 7 days in advance of the trip will receive 50% refund of money paid. Guided fly fishing trips and “Learn to Fly Fish” classes canceled less than 7 days in advance of the trip will receive NO refund of money paid.

Rates and Packages

Guided Fly Fishing Trip Rates (Wade) are as follows:

  • 1/2 day guided fishing rate: $275.00* (1 or 2 people)) 

  • Full day guided fishing rate: $325.00** (1 or 2 people)

Guided Fly Fishing Trip Rates (Boat) are as follows:

A) 15’ float raft. One fishing station + oarsman.

  • 1/2 day guided fishing rate: $300.00* (1 person) 

  • Full day guided fishing rate: $350.00** (1 person)

B) 14’ alum boat. One fishing station + oarsman.

  • 1/2 day guided fishing rate: $300.00* (1 person) 

  • Full day guided fishing rate: $350.00** (1 person)

C) 18’ Key West. 2 fishing stations + helmsman.

  • 1/2 day guided fishing rate: $350.00* (1 or 2 people)

  • Full day guided fishing rate: $400.00** (1 or 2 people)

Additional Information:

*1/2 day guide is 4 hours, Full day guide is 8 hours (excluding travel time.)

**Bring rain gear and waders-Light lunch provided at noon.

Learn to Fly Fishing Course

Two Day Fly Fishing Course in Rangeley, Maine: Classes run from noon to noon any 2 days of the week. Includes: rods, tackle, flies, 24 hr. fishing license. Students may wish to have the Base Camp Lodge and or Meal Plan Option added to the tuition.

Fee: $315.00 for one person or $630.00 for two people.

Class size limited to two people.

Additional Information:

  • Base Camp Lodging Option: Lodging: $75.00 per person.

  • Meal Plan Option: $75.00 per person. Includes 2 bag lunches, 1 breakfast and 1 dinner meal.

  • Taxes and service charges not included.
